I am looking forward to see what happens. I have to admit I've been frustrated with the SB so far, but just have to wait and see what happens. The team currently constructed now is good, but not good enough to win it all this year or the next few years. Definitely need a little change. Thanks for keeping us updated JJ.

Carter and Getzlaf are the two big name centers I can think of. Both help the PP and offer a difficult matchup for other teams:

Sharp-Toews-Kane
Stalberg-Getzlaf/Carter-Hossa

Vicious top 6

I would hope Getzlaf. Question is what is the return. With the tightening defense, is Hjalmarrson now expendible?

Wait and see....

Bigger question, Can Stan offload Frolik in the process?

Derek Roy perhaps?

doubt if Columbus trades within the division, though I need to remind myself that if re-alignment happens they would not be in the division.

But I am betting on Roy.

Hopefully they wait til after Saturday after playing the Kings, we have a hard enough time with Black Hawks as it is

Would love Mike Richards to be brought in, I remember in the 2010 playoffs he was compared to Toews a lot. What a 1-2 punch there

Getzlaf seems to fit everything JJ laid out the most. Especially the "the actual intent of the team is not completely clear at this point" part.

Good to hear Stan is working on more than a few options heading into Monday since nothing can be counted on until its done. Hopefully some of these teams start lowering their asking price as we move towards Monday. Can't wait.. thanks for keeping us updated JJ

A center...so no Alex Semin thank god.

...Getz, Statsny, Brassard, Carter, Grabovski, Parise, Jordan Staal are some goodie gumdrops that come to mind. Yes I know most if not all those (esp Staal) are not realistic.

What about Spezza? I have heard his name out there a few times. Not with the Hawks but that he could be had. He would fit all of the criteria, including the financial commitment.

So much suspense! It would have to be a great deal to take Hayes away from us. Not because of what people think of him but because of what he is and what the Hawks don't have on their roster. They need the big body with good hands and can skate well enough. That's what makes your Pirris more expendable in THIS organization and your Shaw's(pesky, gritty) Krugers(made of heart, great IQ) and Olsens (physical shot blocking) more untouchable. It's not that they are top of the line talents, this team is set in that regard, its that they bring what is missing and so their value in this organization may be higher than in say nashville or phoenix where they need more scorers and playmakers.

Conspiracy theory about Detroit: They grabbed Quincey so Chicago couldn't.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Hawks not need anymore help vs Richards being traded. Unless of course the deal would involve King killer
Patrick Sharp, then I would be all for the Hawks shipping him out before Saturday.

Maybe this will help out..

The only thing that scares me about aiming bit is there is a big risk or missing big..

John Jaeckel: Take Bowman At His Word: He's Aiming Big
- John Jaeckel

I am good with any deal Bowman makes when it comes to a second line center. It is long overdue. But I would add if he is going to give up roster players, good prospects and picks, I would hope it is a player under contract beyond this season. I don't want a rental at a high price. One player I don't want to trade is Stalberg, he has all the makings of a really good power forward, and they are hard to find.

Also I just came on at the end of your last post, so I will repost it here. Good post. I agree a first round pick for Quincey is a steal. Take that first round pick and draft the best Dman available to you and then you have to wait 4 to 5 years to see what you got. In Quincey you get instant return. Great deal by the Wings.

Spezza is NOT leaving Ottawa anytime soon. That is almost certain. The Hawks would have to trade at least Kane to acquire him and I doubt Bowman would do that.

theres a reason COL wont trade stastny
good centers are hard to find and if u can have good center depth u can be a even bigger threat as a team

>JJ, thanks for the continued updates
>Really fun stuff
>Kinda thought SBow was aiming high -- hope he gets his deal
>Ducks would be a good guess as last night's loss really hurt them
>Moving forward, would still like a natural-born-killer with some game to protect Toews -- he's taking far too many cheap shots
>Love everything about Mayers, but Toews needs a real crazy on his wing

Getzlaf seems to fit everything JJ laid out the most. Especially the "the actual intent of the team is not completely clear at this point" part.

Getz has one of the lowest if not the lowest cap number of the IMPACT players mentioned above at 5.325. He has another year left, which is good but it would take a ton to get him. But oh could that payoff big time.

There is another reason they wont.. They have to take back equal salary to stay above the cap floor.

Didn't he say a very good "2nd line center"? Getzlaf is a bonafide 1st line center.
